Scottish Rite Learning Centre
THE SCOTTISH RITE LEARNING CENTREThe Scottish Rite in London, Ontario, is in the
process of establishing a Learning Centre for children who suffer from DYSLEXIA. This pilot project, approved by the Scottish Rite charitable Foundation of Canada, may well spread across Canada as it has in many States of America.
What is DYSLEXIA? There is much information on the subject; but basically, it affects the ability to read, write and spell. Roughly 15% of children are affected. The good news is that it can be managed through well trained tutors using the most effective remediation method known - The Orton-Gillingham System of Multi-Sensory Education - structured one on- one remediation with a certified tutor.
We, as Freemasons, are enthusiastic about this program which provides dyslexic children with a life-altering turn around in their personal academic achievements and a consequent huge enhancement in their own self esteem, social attitudes and behaviour.
Herein lies a great and wonderful benefit to society as well as to the children being helped.
We mainly want to help these children; but, we also hope that the general public will become aware of this benefit to society in order to better understand the nature and activities of Freemasons. In order to get this pilot project underway, we shall need financial support in the amount of about $40,000 which will be matched by the Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation. In addition, about $9,000 per year for the first three years will be needed to operate the facility, for a total of $67,000 in start up money.
You can help by making a donation (and receive a tax benefit). Your cheque should be made payable to the “Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation” and marked “Re: London Scottish Rite Learning Centre-Operating”, and sent to:
Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation,
4 Queen St. South,
Hamilton, ON, L8P 3R3.
Masonry has long been associated with good deeds. This is one more deed which will catch the imagination of the public while, at the same time, will provide enormous benefits for those children who need this special care.
